Fertilizer Facts (ZT)

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Fertilizer Facts

In the lowered light conditions of most interiors, many plants need less fertilizer than they would outdoors, but you will still need to feed them regularly to keep them happy and healthy. Fertilizer comes in three forms:

1. Water-soluble – mix measured amounts with water.

2. Granular – sprinkle around the base of the plant.

3. Spikes – push spikes into the soil near the center of the plant for slow-release feeding.

When buying fertilizer appropriate for most houseplants, you'll find three numbers on the front of the package that tell you what type of fertilizer it is and which part of the plant it affects: foliage, roots, or blooms. Pick a higher number for the area of the plant that you want to enhance.

The first number is for nitrogen, which affect the greenness of foliage.

The second number is for phosphorous, which helps with fruit and flower development.

The third number refers to the amount of potash, which affects root development.

Some plants like roses, orchids, bonsai and azaleas have fertilizers specifically made for them. Choosing one of these products can take the guesswork out of which fertilizer to use.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
