The Central Office Telecom Voice/Data Network Specialist is responsible for surveillance, corrective and preventative maintenance of network elements and circuits on the voice and data network. The incumbent will also be expected to apply new methods and technologies to the process and operation to improve quality of service to our clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Investigate and resolve network performance and process issues.
· Perform regular reviews and updates to preventative maintenance instructions.
· Define pending problem areas that may cause or result in degradation of service to the network.
· Assist in the generation of reports on network problems and network performance.
· Software and hardware upgrades.
· Handle translation changes and miscellaneous switch options.
· Circuit pack installation and testing.
· Network element link communication troubleshooting.
· Problem identification and/or resolution for switching, power, access network or transport.
· Handle service order completion activities.
Experience and Education Requirements:
· Demonstrated and recognized commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
· Demonstrated analytical ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making
· Technical certification, degree or diploma in a related area and /or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Current working knowledge of Nortel OPTera Metro 3000 series, Nortel 5200 DWDM, Zhone Universal Edge 9000, Titan 5500 DCS, Nortel Passport 8600, Nortel BPS 2000, Nortel OC-192 LH, Argus and Helios DC power plants, and other leading edge telecom equipment.
· Experience in provisioning and restoring TDM, ATM, Frame Relay, analog video and SDI Video circuits.
· Familiar with SONET and IP routing protocols and standards.
· Familiar with Network routing principles, data and switched voice.
· Familiar with the safe working practices and the characteristics of OSP fiber as applied in a metropolitan environment.
· Familiar with analogue, digital and fiber optic test equipment supporting the aforementioned equipment, circuits and protocols.
· Extensive experience in network operations as applied to telecommunications and related fields.
. Must have a valid drivers license and able to demonstate responsible motor vehicle operation.
