Location - Bermuda
SQL DBA position on the island of Bermuda. The role is a perm full time
role for 1 year with likely extensions. The position is with a local IT
Consulting company and will include supporting different clients on the
island.
BASIC FUNCTION
The Senior Technical Database Administrator will be part of the Global
Data Management Team and will have overall responsibility for database
administration and related technical support for Bermuda.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·Provide database support which can include physical data modeling,
database design and SQL programming support.
·Proactive planning, capacity monitoring and performance tuning for new
and existing databases
·Develop standards and procedures for storing, transporting and
archiving data
·Provide database administrative support for creation of databases,
backup and recovery, archiving, migrating databases from system to system
and across geographic locations
·Provide SQL assistance and training as needed
· Ensure changes to the environment are supported by vendor software
upgrades
·Investigate new database technologies and techniques
SKILL NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS
Candidate must have:
·Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology Management
or MCDBA/MSD plus equivalent technical experience
·Minimum 5 years DBA experience providing administrative support for
SQL Server & Sybase Server based databases in a multi-sever environment
·Extensive experience supporting a 100+ MB SQL Server database
·Backup and Recovery - SQL Backups Extensive experience with all types
of SQL Server backups including small to medium database
backup/recovery
·Data Transformation Services - package design,debugging and support
·SQL Server Agent - Jobs
·Performance tuning - table design, indexing, code optimization
·I/O Subsystem design and tuning. Knowledge of RAID configurations and
the effect of performance on data and log files
·Microsoft Analysis Services (OLAP) experience
·ASP, ADO, ODBC, COB/DCOM, XML, SOAP and .NET development and
architecture experience
·Preference will be given to candidates with RMS and Veritas Net Backup
experience
·Preference will be given to candidates with consulting experience
·Above average English written and verbal communications are a must
The salary range is $70-90k USD/Bermuda $ + bonus. The client will
handle all immigration requirement. Please note that only Canadian, British
or American citizens will be considered. Best candidates are single,
next best married with no kids, lastly married with young kids.
