STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS:FUNCTIONS / JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for all computer support for the CBC.ca unit.
DESCRIPTION / ACTIVITY:
Designs and maintains databases using Oracle, PostgreSQL and mySQL. Evaluates users' requests for new data elements and incorporates into the existing shared data environment. Coordinates use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy. Determines and implements database search strategies. Monitors database performance and recommends improvements. Maintains and optimizes SQL queries. Uses various software package applications to arrange, sort and/or manipulate data (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, graphics and statistical analysis software). Liaisons with RadioCanada and Media Support Group (IT) on the provision of database computer services including application updates and software upgrades. Reviews and revises hardware and software issues, open new accounts, address accessibility to backup procedures and security issues. Researches, reviews and recommends new technology and its relevance, compatibility and adaptability with existing computer and other systems for the department. Evaluates and modifies existing applications to take into account changes in system requirements, software releases, or equipment configurations. Liaises with department staff to establish processing priorities and explains the capabilities and limitations of the available hardware and software.
OBJECTIVE CRITERIA:
1. 5+ years working with Oracle, SQL Server and other equivalent databases2. 5+ years full-time experience designing, developing and modifying SQL, PL/SQL programs3. 5+ years experience in detailed systems requirements involving large information systems4. 3+ Database administration5. Performance Tuning and Performance monitoring6. Experience re-structuring an existing database7. Data quality assurance, data conversion, data corrections, and data maintenance8. Bilingualism would be an asset
SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA:
1. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.2. Ability to clearly explain objectives, requirements and directions to others.3. Good interpersonal skills to ascertain appropriate measures when programming problems arise.4. Good organizational and time management skills.5. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and disseminate information to other CBC personnel, including non-technical people.6. Ability to exercise independent judgment.7. Ability to conceptualize, visualize, prototype and design applications.8. Strong analytical skills.
