No, you don’t have to.

I got refresh my memory, haven’t done that for long time.

No, you don’t have to. Suppose you have a query say STUDENT, you want query by field GRADE with different value, and you have a form called FORM1, combo box in that form called COMBO1 with predefined value Grade1, Grad2…etc.

In GRADE criteria you can put expression: [Forms]![FORM1]![COMB1], you can also use expression wizard to build it. So value in criteria is get from that combo box. Create a button in that form to open the query STUDENT, Just pick any number from pull down list and click button… Walla…

Is this what you want? Hope I got your right.

  • 工作学习 / IT技术讨论 / Help..how to create a dropdown box for users to make a customized query in Access?
The preset function is a pop-up message with a text box asking for input value for making query, but i want a dropdown box instead of a text box so the users can select the value from the list..
I can create a window with a drop down box but how to send the value the user typed in to make the query??
    • In the tool bar, click "FORMAT"->"Change to COMBO BOX". Open the property window, click "DATA" tag, "ROW SOURCE TYPE" set to "Value List", In "Row SOURCE" write somthething like "1";"2";"3"
      • My problem is the prompt asking for query criteria is the preset function of Access, I didn't find out a way to modify the layout.
if i create a form as a prompt by my self with a combo, I don't know how to send the value picked up by users from the list to run a customized query. Because the query only accept a specific value as criteria if you don't want use preset prompt to input different values. My God, don't tell me i have to create query for each value.
