With "Meet the Robinsons" I'm happy to report director Stephen J. Anderson and his team have delivered on the goods -- obviously opening new avenues as far as the animation is concerned, but perhaps more important, giving us a charming story that will resonate with all ages of the family audiences it is targeting.

From the very first frame of "Meet the Robinsons," it's impossible not to be enchanted by Lewis, an orphan and genius inventor as well as a techno-gadgeteer who often stumbles as he tinkers away at various gizmos. Though his hairstyle may remind us of Bart Simpson, don't be fooled. This kid is very sweet and deeply concerned both about finding a family of his own and learning the real reason his mother abandoned him on the doorstep of the orphanage, shortly after his birth.

Lewis' inventing adventures are the bane of his baseball-obsessed roommate Goob -- and keep the poor kid up at night. But Lewis is equally obsessed with his main invention, the Memory Scanner. It's a device he hopes will make it possible to transport him back in time to his birth, so he can learn the identity of his mother and why she gave him up.

The fun in "Meet the Robinsons" really starts after an intriguing encounter at a local school science fair. Lewis meets the mysterious Wilbur Robinson, and we're introduced to the delicious, bungling villain, the Bowler Hat Guy.

As Wilbur whisks Lewis into the future in his time-traveling transport, we are also whisked into a spectacularly colorful setting that is one part Oz and many parts Raymond Loewy -- the industrial designer so closely identified with the streamlined products of the 1930s, '40s and '50s.

It's all pure confection and fun, and the perfect setting for the delightfully eccentric cast of characters we come to meet -- Wilbur Robinson's strange and wonderful extended family.

One of my favorite characters -- a clear standout -- is Carl, the Robinson's family robot (voiced by Harland Williams). He has some of the best lines in the movie, reminiscent of those delivered (without the English accent, but with all the manic energy) of 3CPO in the "Star Wars" films.

As is often the case with recent animated films, "Meet the Robinsons" does work on several levels. I happened to screen this with a fellow adult and two children -- a fourth-grader and a seventh-grader. Each of us came away with our level of enjoyment. While a number of the one-liners clearly were over the head of the youngest viewer, he was perhaps more intrigued with the visual imagery presented, especially when we got to the future.

The middle-school boy was fascinated with the 3-D technology and clearly related to the "tween" issues facing the two lead characters.

Though there are a few plot inconsistencies along the way, it all does come together in the end. It's all feel-good fantasy, and a ride that I enjoyed the entire time. Though state-of-the-art technically, I think you'll find there's a healthy, old-fashioned feel to this movie -- one that will make you walk out of the theater feeling satisfied, and all warm 'n fuzzy inside.

Not a bad feeling, if you ask me.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
