年级大点的爱好政治的朋友可以看看Charlie Wilson's War。 演的非常不错。想想只过了十几年,世界变化这么大。从前的敌人成了朋友,朋友变了敌人。

...The CIA actually DID supply weapons and training to Osama Bin Laden and other mujahideen. We didn't figure the people in the desert would come around and bite us in the ass 15 years later by slamming two jetliners into the World Trade Center towers.

It didn't matter at the time and it doesn't matter now. Obviously you didn't grow up during the Cold War or remember much of it, because the Soviets were by far are greater threat to this state than Osama Bin Laden ever will be, 9/11 included....

......However, who knew that Osama (and his ilk) would turn around and bite the hand that fed it? I mean, the bottom line is that you cannot predict what religious radicals will do! And that includes ALL religious radicals. I am a Christian, and I abhor what some radical Christians do by bombing abortion clinics. The same can be said for radical Muslims. The Qu'ran, nor the Bible support the kind of radical, terrorist actions they take, and you cannot reason with these people. The only thing you can do is either imprison them or kill them.

However, as another person has noted, the threat of the Soviet Empire and in particular the thinking of the old guard such as Khrushchev - "We will bury you" makes any threat by Bin Laden or Al Qaeda miniscule in comparison... which isn't to say that it still isn't a very serious threat, but once upon a time the whole world came within a hair's breath of being evaporated in one giant nuclear explosion. Never has this world been as close to actual annihilation as it was during the Missles of October!

There was a time when the Soviets were hellbent on absorbing the entire world into one huge collection of communist states. Anyone who denies this need only spend a few moments reading about Khrushchev-era Soviet Union in Wikipedia.

Al Qaeda isn't officially funded and supported through any country (although we all know there are countries who support it "unofficially"). The Soviet Union was an incredibly powerful machine that almost munched up, or blew up the whole damn world. Those who would decry the "Western World" would do well to remember that it was the "Western World" and guys like Charlie Wilson that brought down the Berlin Wall and ended decades of the utter oppression of freedom.

At the time, every decent citizen of this world (including many in the Soviet Union) believed that it was right to support Afghanistan in it's fight against the horrific aggression perpetrated on that nation by the Russians. And it *was* right to support and aid that nation at that time. Unfortunately The Taliban sucked into the vacuum created when the Soviet empire collapsed and Afghanistan was once again left to it's own devices. That doesn't change the fact that supporting that country in it's bid for freedom was *right*, and no revisionist wrangling now will ever make it the wrong thing to do. What is wrong is what happened to Afghanistan through the oppression of the Taliban, NOT what was done to help the people of that country people during the occupation by the Soviet Union....
