I haven't had to add anything to the soil for years after the initial investment. But it is better that you have couple of inches of good soil before adding the plants. I used raised bed so I can add the soil directly on top of the grass without getting rid of them. But it does require quite a bit of soil. Best is to have it delivered to your front yard. But be careful who you buy the soil from. I had bad experience with my last delivery.
