The Role: Morningstar Canada is seeking an enthusiastic, results-driven Technical Leader for our industry-leading database. Morningstar`s data drives research and product development, while helping our clients meet investor demands. This position is based in our Toronto office. The hands-on Technical Leader coordinates and manages a small team of developers, working closely within our global team to achieve strategic objectives. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, work within a collaborative team environment, resolve issues, define escalation protocols, build consensus, and implement solutions. Candidates should be self-motivated, innovative, and flexible with a passion for investing and a constant willingness to learn.
The Group: Fueling the technologies that drive our products and support our company’s infrastructure, the Technology team within our Corporate team consists of talented developers, network architects, and IT experts who help make technology one of Morningstar’s core strengths. Though our technologists represent a range of skills and knowledge bases, they all view technology as a craft and care deeply about creating positive user experiences. From Agile methodologies to mobile applications, to software as a service (SaaS) delivered from our private cloud, we push technology’s boundaries to build scalable, elegant solutions that help investors reach their financial goals.
Responsibilities
+ Lead database architecture to support data integration and globalization initiatives
+ Design database structure to increase scalability, maintain compatibility with existing global/local databases, and enable financial business rules and calculations
+ Create and enforce business continuity policies to meet product needs
+ Maintain and enhance .NET/T-SQL calculation programs to meet current and future product requirements
+ Schedule, allocate resources and lead the team’s technical projects
+ Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members
+ Work closely with the quality assurance team, the global data team and product team, maintaining good rapport and cooperative relationships
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; Master’s degree is preferred
+ 7+ years administration & development experience with Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SQL 2012/2010/2008/2005) and MySQL
+ Solid knowledge of .NET technologies, XML, EXCEL, and HTML
